MyPendrivePRO - Features
This section
shows MyPendrivePRO main features and
functions.
Some items have been omitted because are self-explanatory.
NOTE: all functions referred as "at drive connection" will operate only if "DriveAutoStart" function is enabled (see Option
panel).
DRIVE PANEL
ICON
This is the icon displayed in "My Computer" when the drive is inserted: click on "Change..." button to modify it.
Supported file format is .ICO. If you choose a file present on the hard disk or on other drives, the file will be copied on the removable drive (in ..\_MyPendrive\icons folder) so it will be always available.
LABEL (WinXP)
This is the drive label displayed in "My computer".
Maximum allowed length is 32 characters.
The effects of this option will be visible only in WinXP.
LABEL (other o.s.)
This is the drive name that will be displayed in other operating systems (like Win98 and Windows 2000).
Maximum allowed length is 11 characters.
MENU ITEM
With MyPendrivePRO, when user right-clicks on the drive icon, an additional menu item will be displayed and it allows the user to run
MyPendrivePRO.
Modifying the menu item description, this function will not be changed.
BACKUP
Starts the instant copy of the whole drive content in a chosen directory on another drive.
"Explore backup folder" and "Backup the drive now" buttons will be inactive if a backup folder has not been selected in the "options" window.
PROGRAMS PANEL
ADDED PROGRAMS
In this screen user can select executables programs (.exe) in the removable drive that will be managed in following way:
the program list will be visible while right clicking on the drive icon in MyComputer. This allows to fast access programs without the need to explore folders.
Clicking "Add program...", user can add a program at the list; as a standard,
MyPendrivePRO will show the corresponding .exe filename, but user can customize it changing "Menu item" field and clicking the "Update menu item" button.
MyPendrivePRO warns the user if a file is not physically present in the drive, but keeps its settings leaving the user decide what to do.
AUTO-START
User can select a program that will be auto-started instantly at drive connection by checking "This program".
At the moment, it is possible to auto-start only one program in the list, but it is also possible to auto-start MyPendriveUI and MyDesktopMachine (if installed)
To do this, please select the corresponding items in the Option screen.
DOCUMENTS PANEL
ADDED DOCUMENTS
In this screen user can add most used documents in the removable drive.
Clicking "Add document...", user can add a document at the list; as a standard,
MyPendrivePRO will show the corresponding document filename, but user can customize it changing "Menu item" field and clicking the "Update menu item" button.
MyPendrivePRO warns the user if a file is not physically present in the drive, but keeps its settings leaving the user decide what to do.
Note: the document list will not be visible while right clicking on the drive icon in MyComputer.
AUTO-START
User can select a document that will be auto-opened instantly at drive connection by checking "This document".
At the moment, it is possible to auto-start only one document in the list.
FAVORITES PANEL
FAVORITES LIST
This is the list of "Favorites" in the removable drive.
This list will be empty if the user has not previously made a backup of his Favorites.
In this case, clicking on "Import/update", will immediately import, on the removable drive, the Favorites from the PC's Favorites folder without the need to perform a backup operation.
For instructions about MyPendrivePRO backup functions, please refer to the "Backup"
panel.
DELETE ITEM
This button allow the user to physically delete the selected link or link folder.
MyPendrivePRO warns the user if the selected link is not physically present in the drive, but keeps its settings leaving the user decide what to do.
AUTO-BROWSE
User can select a website in the Favorites list that will be automatically opened by
MyPendrivePRO at drive connection and check "This link".
CHECK IF CONNECTED TO INTERNET
Selecting this option, MyPendrivePRO will check if a Internet connection is active before attempting to contact the selected website. This is useful if you don't want to start your browser if you are not connected to Internet.
FOLDERS PANEL
FOLDERS
It is possible to select a folder on the removable drive and/o a PC folder that will be automatically opened at drive connection.
Regarding folders on the removable drive, MyPendrivePRO will remember the "relative path" of the selected folder; in this way, whenever the assigned drive letter will be different, the folder will be correctly detected and opened.
SELECT NONE
Clicking on these buttons, is possible to deselect chosen folders.
OTHER OPTIONS
Checking these options, it is possible to select one or more predefined folders that will be automatically opened at drive connection.
BACKUP PANEL
BACKUP FOLDERS
In this screen user can select PC folders to be copied on the removable drive. Backup will be performed immediately and automatically at drive connection.
To add a folder in the list: click the "Add folder.." button and select a PC folder.
To remove a folder from the list: select an item and click the "Remove item" button.
MyPendrivePRO warns the user if a folder is not physically present, but keeps its settings because they could be referred to folders that are present in other computers where the user uses
MyPendrivePRO.
USER PERSONAL FOLDERS
Standard Windows personal folder can easily selected marking these checkboxes.
NOTES:
1) Selecting a folder means that all its content and subfolders will be copied.
2) Selecting MyDocuments folder, also MyPictures, MyMusic and MyVideo will be copied because are MyDocuments subfolders.
3) If dimensions of selected folders will be greater than available free drive space, the "Backup now" button will be disabled. In the same way, the automatic backup function will be ignored by MyPendriveRobot.
4) Showed backup dimensions are indicative. They may vary depending on hard disk and drive file systems.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
Backup functions will be performed in this way:
MyPendrivePRO checks if selected folders are already present on the drive; if a folder exists,
MyPendrivePRO deletes it, then performs a copy of that folder from PC hard disk to the drive.
In this way, ALL CONTENT OF TARGET FOLDERS WILL BE DELETED before being completely substituted.
OPTIONS PANEL
SKIN
Enables the user to change the look of MyPendrive's graphic interface.
By default, classic Windows XP themes are included (XpBlue, XpGrey and XpOrange) for MyPendriveUI and (XpBlue-small, XpGrey-small e XpOrange-small) for MyPendriveRobot. User can create its own graphic themes: allowed file format is JPG, 560x400 pixel (520x170 for MyPendriveRobot).
Copy the custom files in \_MyPendrive\Skin and they will be immediately available in the list.
ON MyPendriveUI START-UP
"Minimized in System tray", if checked, MyPendriveUI will start minimized in the System tray.
BACKUP FOLDER
This is the default PC folder where you can backup the entire content of the removable drive.
User can change it by clicking on "Change backup folder...", selecting or creating one.
OTHER OPTIONS
"Confirm automatic backup"
if checked, MyPendriveRobot will ask the user to confirm before executing the programmed backup.
"Start user interface"
When DriveAutoStart launches MyPendriveRobot, it executes automatic backups and starts other programmed functions.
At this time, if this box is checked, MyPendriveUI will be launched.
If user unselects it, MyPendriveUI can be accessed creating a desktop shortcut (see "Create desktop shortcut" button), or by right clicking on the drive icon in
MyComputer.
"Always on top"
sets MyPendriveUI and MyPendriveRobot windows on top of all other windows.
"Minimize in System tray" if checked, when user minimizes the program, MyPendriveUI icon will appear only in the System tray, and it will be invisible in the task bar.
MyPendriveUI will be visible again clicking on its icon in the System tray.
If unchecked, MyPendriveUI will be minimized in the task bar.
"Disconnect/reconnect warning"
When user changes "Icon", "Label" and "Context menu" in the Drive panel, they will be active only if the drive has been disconnected and reconnected after changes. This action has to be made according to the "safe drive removal" Microsoft procedure, to avoid damage to the drive or data loss.
To safely disconnect the drive, click on the icon (with the green arrow) in the System tray, choosing the drive to disconnect.
In MyPendrivePRO, if this option is active, messages regarding this issue will be displayed. If this options is inactive, messages will be suppressed but the need of "safely removing the drive" still persists.
OTHER MyPendrive's COMPONENTS
User can activate/deactivate additional MyPendrive's components.
Checkboxes will be inactive if the respective component is not installed or if it needs the DriveAutoStart function to be activated.
Registered users will be automatically notified by e-mail on the availability of new components and updates.
CREATE DESKTOP SHORTCUT
Allows the user to automatically create a desktop shortcut to MyPendriveUI.
Having a desktop shortcut is useful if the "DriveAutoStart" function is not active.
Keep in mind that the created shortcut will work only if the drive letter will be the same at every drive connection.
DriveAutoStart FUNCTION
When enabled, "DriveAutoStart.exe" and "cncs232.dll" will be copied in C:\Program files\MyPendrive folder and a shortcut will be created in the user start-up folder (this allows the function to be started at every PC reboot).
Then "DriveAutoStart.exe" will be launched; "DriveAutoStart.exe" is a program that enables MyPendriveRobot to be automatically launched when user connects a removable drive containing
MyPendrivePRO.
Clicking the "Enable DriveAutoStart" button, not only enables it, but automatically checks (and restores) necessary files if they were accidentally deleted.
Disabling DriveAutoStart, all related files will be deleted from the PC hard disk and "DriveAutoStart.exe" will be terminated.
MyPendrivePRO also checks if original DriveAutoStart files are present in the drive. If they are not present, a message warns to reinstall
MyPendrivePRO in the removable drive using MyPendrivePRO_v03_setup.exe.

TECHNICAL
NOTES
- MyPendrivePRO will run correctly if all original files are present. Avoid the deletion or the renaming of original installed files.
- To activate/deactivate DriveAutoStart, please use only the related button in
the "Option" panel.
UNINSTALL
MyPendrivePRO
has not registry keys or files in system folders.
The uninstall process is easy and will not leave traces:
1) Run MyPendriveUI, open the "Options" window and deactivate DriveAutoStart;
2) quit the program;
3) delete from the removable drive "_MyPendrive" folder and the "Autorun.inf"
file;
4) disconnect an reconnect the drive.
